Digital wellbeing beyond Screen Time
You already know the number. Four hours, five hours. The weekly report arrives, you wince, and nothing changes. That isn't a willpower failure. How long was never the useful question. The better one is why you reached for it.
Why duration dashboards don't change behavior
Screen Time, app limits, and grayscale modes all treat the phone as the problem. But the reach for the phone is usually an exit from something else: a hard paragraph, a boring stretch, an uncomfortable thought. Block the exit and the restlessness just finds another door. Lasting change starts one step earlier, with noticing the moment of the reach and what it was an exit from.
Noticing instead of blocking
- Put your real work in a container. Start a Calibrate focus session on the thing the phone usually steals from. That's where the reaches happen.
- Mark the reach when it happens. At each gentle check-in, if the phone pulled you, say so. One tap. That single tap does what a weekly report can't: it happens at the moment of the habit.
- Let the pattern surface. When the phone shows up in four of your last seven sessions, Calibrate tells you plainly and suggests the one intervention that reliably works: distance. "Put it out of reach?"
- Feel the difference, in words. After a quieter session: "More present than your usual." The progress arrives in words, and there's no chart to fall behind on.
No surveillance, by design
Calibrate doesn't read your Screen Time, monitor your apps, or watch anything at all. You report your own attention, which keeps the data honest and the practice yours. Everything stays in a local database on your iPhone. No account, no cloud.
Less scrolling. More noticing.
Calibrate is on the App Store. Free for 14 days, everything open.
